Join us for a dynamic networking and professional development event on Friday, November 5, 2010 from 2:30 —4:30 PM at the Redwood STC Events Center (130). Karen Gunn, Assistant Vice President  and Dean of the School of Professional and Economic Development, will help us kick off the event by sharing her story and her path to leadership. Following Dean Gunn, we’ll continue with a lively format that’s part roundtable networking, and part moderated conversation that will help us forge connections and explore our own personal power.

Do not miss this great opportunity to network with other AAWCC SLCC members and develop your own personal leadership portrait. This event is open to all AAWCC SLCC members and their guests, so if you know someone at SLCC who might be interested in joining our chapter, please invite them to join us. Light refreshments will be served.

Please RSVP by Wednesday, November 3, 2010. Contact Melanie Hall at 801-957-5299 or email at her at melanie.hall@slcc.edu if you need additional information.

Think about how you will use this professional headshot. It is important to dress appropriate for its intended use. Better yet, dress to the position that you aspire, and let the whole process of getting a professional headshot become a positive intention to work toward your goal.

Wear a top that is a solid color. Prints and patterns do not photograph nearly as well, and may take away from the focal point of the headshot–your face. You can stick to either a basic white or black if your headshot will be in black and white, rather than color, but make sure whatever you wear doesn’t blend into the background too much. If your headshot will be in color, you should choose a color that compliments your skin tone and wear a top with a very simple style.

Resist the urge to wear accessories. In terms of headshots, less is more. You want your headshot to be simple, elegant, and representative of you. Do not over-accessorize. Keep it simple. Too many extra visuals will detract from your face, which should be the only focal point in your pictures. If you have one particular piece of jewelry you’d like to wear, don’t wear any other pieces with it. A big, bold necklace can sometimes look really wonderful, but not if it’s also worn with big, bold earrings. Small, basic earrings, one or two simple rings, and no necklace are usually the best choice for women

Wear makeup, but don’t overdo it. You need a nice base that will photograph well, but you still want to look like yourself in the headshot.
